Completed as a painting from memory, I tried to catch the quality of light
from a particularly vivid sunset. Transparent watercolor
techniques play against the light touch of opaque white snowflakes.
Mixing the opaque white with other colors in the painting gave
soothing pastel highlights to the snow. This painting gives the viewer
a very quiet, restful feeling. Winter Sunset Over Pines was used as a reference
for the full-size watercolor painting A Veil of Snow.
