Sunlit Perch

Floral Paintings
My first step in creating this painting was to protect the basic shapes
of the bird and lilac bush with masking fluid. The mask, once dry, kept the
white of the paper in these areas safe while I painted the background in.
A loose, freehand background could then be completed on the dampened paper.
Once all was dry, the original areas of masking fluid were removed, and the
painting was ready to be completed. The bird and lilacs were done last,
with the subtle shades of the background repeated in the
lilac blooms and foliage. It was a challenge capturing the light
in this painting; the sun touched the lilacs, foliage, and bird all very delicately.
