Still Life with Striped Fabric
Watercolor /
Still Life
Most important here is the design, given impact through the slow process
of glazing over many layers of color. To keep focus on the design, the color
range and details are kept simple. I played opposites in the color wheel
against each other, matching the strident red of the pot against
the green of the fabric. That shade of red moves throughout the rest of the painting
just enough, repeating itself in the pears.
Reds are used to shade greens, and greens to shade reds, balancing out the image.
