For this painting, I wanted to play the colors of the bluejays against those of the
dogwood blossoms. To keep birds and blossoms of
equal importance, I was careful not to stress the
bright blues of the birds too much. Using the blooming dogwood tree as a
symbol of spring, I wanted this painting to represent
part of our joy upon the much-anticipated arrival of spring.
