Study of an Orange

For this painting, I had wanted the challenge of using highly
saturated colors. I approached this painting as a very traditional still life,
set up in my studio. The painting was done in successive work sessions of
gradually layering watercolors in order to bring out the strongest, most vibrant colors.
While the painting's subject is the oranges themselves, notice how their colors are also repeated
in the pattern of the vase. These colors are then played against the contrasting deep blues
running through the rest of the painting.
