Having initiated this painting as an exercise using masking fluid, I created the image
based on a succession of on-site sketches. The first step was to freely handpaint the
masking fluid over the shapes of the daisies, to protect the white of the
watercolor paper in those areas. Once the fluid dried, the paint can
be built up around those areas. The mask is removed later, leaving a field
of pure white daisy shapes. Lastly, details are added to soften and shadow the daisies.
