Cattails in the Adirondacks

References for this image came from on-site paintings and sketches that I'd
done of this region. The painting was done on extremely smooth
watercolor paper, a very slick surface to work on. Because of this,
no sketching was done underneath, and the image was painted directly
onto the paper. The sky, clouds, and rain-covered distant hills were the first to be painted.
Next followed the midground and flat distant waters of the pond, then lastly
the foreground accents. With the slick surface of the paper, I was able to
give the reed grasses a very interesting texture.
