A Veil of Snow
Watercolor /
Landscape
I first completed the smaller watercolor painting
Winter Sunset Over Pines from
memory to capture the desired color palette, then later completed this
full-size watercolor based on the scene. With no sketching done beneath,
this was directly painted onto the paper. I tried to give this painting an
impressionistic glow of colors across the snow, with both the vibrant and darker
colors stemming from transparent watercolor techniques.
With the tranparent watercolors completed, the last step was building up layers
of opaque watercolors. For this, I mixed opaque white with other colors from
the painting, giving the highlights soft, pastel tones.
