Adirondacks Breaking Storm

A fast-moving summer rainstorm passes through this scene in the Adirondacks,
and the task at hand was to capture its mood and feel. I painted this on
smooth watercolor board, which has a very immediate response to watercolors, requiring
that you work very quickly across the surface. With the background wet,
I first worked on the sky, distant hills and road. Then I could proceed to
add distant trees and the foreground, silhouetted against a stormy sky.
Movement amidst the evergreen branches hints at winds gaining strength from the storm.
