Sunlit Still Life with Colored Glass
Other Media (watercolor with colored pencils) /
Still Life
Beginning with good archival watercolor paper, I started with a loose watercolor underpainting.
The details of the painting would emerge with numerous layerings of colored pencil later applied over the base.
The palette for this painting was carefully chosen, I had wanted to do a primarily blue still life in my studio.
I wanted to keep the overall effect very quiet and restful, keeping this painting subtle without any bold, overpowering statements.
As with all layered artworks, this took several sessions to complete. Note the strong design elements
of the fabric in the still life, and the way its form moves through the painting.
The background is kept very quiet, allowing the fabric and still life elements to remain the main subjects.
