Depicted here is a backwoods trail meandering through a local park setting.
While on location, I completed tiny value studies, contrasting the darkest and
midrange values with the white of the paper for highlights. Notes and details
were written down, describing colors and lighting for my references.
The finished painting was based off my notes and value studies, showing
full summer in the depths of a hardwood forest, while distant trees
are barely visible with a deep thicket hidden behind.
This was completed on watercolor paper, using a very loosely painted watercolor
base, then with the final layering done using pastels for detailing and accents.
