Embrace
Pastels
Using a heavy watercolor paper, this pastel painting was created through
a specific sequence of events. The underpainting was a free-flowing abstract watercolor,
which I examined to determine what shapes I saw emerging from the different color patterns.
These shapes were accentuated as I saw them, creating an abstract scene of
children reaching out to each other and embracing. Pastels were added in layers
onto the watercolor base, working from hardest to softest, until completion.
