Adirondacks Hidden Falls
Oils /
Landscape
Using a similar manner as with my watercolors, I completed this oil in my studio
with glazing techniques to add depth, color, and the mood of the lighting.
I created this image as a composite from many previous sketches, moving
in particularly close to the base of the falls for its drama.
The focal point became the cascading waters and their reflections of light.
Painted onto a smooth linen canvas, I built up the depth of the oils on it
for greater effect. I worked to bring out the full summer colors
deep in the forest, from the trees' foliage to the soft mosses evident atop the rocks.
