The initial version of the painting was created from views outside
my window combined with memories of my winter walks, with the goal
to catch the golden setting sun. I was then able to create a second version
in the computer, reversing it, bringing trees into the foreground and changing
the time to midday (only a hint of the original sunset remains
behind trees in the background).
I had fun extending the compositional design
with the shapes of different evergreens and bushes, each with their
own coverings of snow reflecting sunlight. Colors of the shadows in the snow
are delicately portrayed. As a final touch, I added a
woman walking her dogs, giving a softer feel to the image.
