I combined my memories of snowy scenes at local parks with sketches
that I'd done of creekside trees to create this painting.
While this is a very dramatic, dynamic composition, it is softened with
lighting effects. I also wanted to keep the quality of the last
of the fall foliage left on the trees in the distant background.
My goal was for the viewer to feel the cold of the water, with the added challenge
of capturing snow-covered boulders lodged amidst the falls.
Notice how sunlight cascades down along with the water, bouncing back to reflect
off trees, rocks and snow drifts.
